Power Saver Tip for Longer Flights

NOTE: This works on Windows XP, Vista and 7 with FSX. I would be very much obligied if someone could check if this works with FS9 for me.

---

So then, you want to fly all those long flights but don't have the time? You have been told to leave it on pause but don't want to pay huge electricity bills for your PC to run 100% power overnight. Well there may be a solution...

Right now that the cringeworthy speech is over let's get started.

This tip will allow you to undertake longer flights over the period of a few days without needing to stop and save it and leave your PC running.

I occassionally have this time problem with long haul flights. A method that may work involves you pausing flight simulator and which leaves FSX running so that you do not lose your flight data.

Firstly, Pause FSX and just put your PC into low power mode (effectivly standby/sleep for Vista) which will keep the current session (FSX) in memory. You can then boot up your PC at any time, unpause FSX and carry on the flight. This draws the absolute minimum amount of power that your PC needs to keep data in the RAM and that is it.

I've not had any problems with FSX doing it this way and have completed many a long flight this way with no problems.

Hope this is of some help to everyone concerned about completing longer flights.
